“Jagged Rusted Daggers” My Poem About Verbal Abuse

2 May

Mary Lou Sandler's Upcoming Poetry Book Cover

JAGGED RUSTED DAGGERS

WORDS CUT INTO FLESH

TONGUE TORTURED TURMOIL

A CHILDHOOD NOT LAID TO REST

A VIRUS HIDING DORMANT

DEEP WITHIN ITS PIT

AWAKEN IT WILL BITE YOU

INFECTIOUS SPREADING SPIT

WORDS HOW THEY BEAT YOU

BATTERED BROKEN BONE

A STILLNESS IN THE DARKNESS

A BITTERED SOUL ALONE

HOW DO WE STOP THIS?

THIS TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE

PATTERNED IN OUR CORE

TUCKED AWAY… UNSEEN

WHY DO WE UNEARTH IT

MAKE IT GO AWAY

WHY DO WE HOLD ON TO

THAT WHICH LEADS ASTRAY

REFLECTION… REJECTION… STUCK ON REPEAT

AND SO WE WALK THIS ROAD ONCE MORE

UPON… BEATEN TATTERED FEET

HE WHO SPEAKS WITH JAGGED TONGUE

SHOULD BE WEARY OF THE SONGS HE HAS SUNG

FOR HE BE KNOWN AS NOT A GENT…

BUT A WICKED ONE…
